Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely none. FIST Gym welcomes complete beginners in all programs. Our coaches are experienced in teaching people starting from zero — whether you have never thrown a punch or rolled on the mats before, there is a class suited for you. Just show up ready to learn.
Class schedules vary by program and are updated regularly. We run classes on weekdays and weekends with morning, afternoon, and evening time slots available for most programs. Please message us on WhatsApp or Facebook for the current schedule, as it may change based on events, holidays, and instructor availability.
Wear comfortable workout clothes — rash guard or t-shirt and shorts are fine for your first visit. Bring water, a small towel, and an open mind. If you are joining BJJ, a gi (uniform) will be needed for Gi classes eventually, but for your trial you can wear a rash guard and shorts. We recommend bare feet on the mats. Slippers or sandals for off-mat areas.
Yes — FIST Gym encourages prospective students to come in and try a class before committing. It is the best way to meet the coaches, see the facility, and determine which program is the right fit. Just message us in advance to confirm class timing and let the instructor know you are coming in for the first time.
Our coaching roster includes experienced, competition-tested martial artists. Prof. Neil Fereira leads the BJJ program and is a gold medalist at Marianas Pro Manila 2025. FIST has also hosted SEA Games gold medalist Dean Roxas for special open mat sessions. Coaches across all programs are qualified and actively involved in their disciplines.
Absolutely. FIST Gym is a welcoming, inclusive community. Women train regularly at FIST in all disciplines, and our environment emphasizes technical learning and mutual respect — not ego or aggression. For kids' programs and age-specific requirements, please message us directly as this may vary by program.
FIST students actively participate in local, national, and international competitions across BJJ (BJJFP, Marianas Pro, etc.) and boxing. The gym also hosts open mat events and welcomes visiting practitioners from other gyms. Follow our Instagram @fist_gym for announcements about upcoming events, competitions, and special sessions.
The simplest way is to message us on WhatsApp or send an inquiry through this page. Tell us which program you are interested in, your experience level, and your preferred schedule. We will get back to you with current availability and enrollment details. You can also visit the gym directly during class hours to speak with a coach in person.
